Chanel No. 5 EDP : My precious…
Allow me to gush a bit…
This is the best thing I’ve smelled. This is the best fragrance I own.
I just opened my 4th bottle and I thought I’ll take this as an opportunity to post a review.
Is it just me, or has the aldehyde blast in the opening been toned down in the newer batches? In the previous bottles that I have owned along the last decade, there used to be a sparkly rush that hit your nostrils when you first sprayed it. It’s a lot tamer now. As always, it’s the ylang ylang that captures my senses in the top notes.
As we get to the heart notes, the rest of the flowers bloom. I can’t distinguish one floral note from the other, and I like it like that. The newer bottle is a little less intense than the ones I’ve worn in the last 10 years.
The drydown is where this creation shines the brightest. It transitions wonderfully to a silky, powdery finish (a soft, cuddly baby powder-ish) with the floral notes playing gently on the woody base. I can get sandalwood and vetiver, but no patchouli or vanilla. Also, what I get is something that’s classy and elegant and lady-like ❤️❤️
It projects well - about 3 hours with 2-3 sprays. It lasts well into the day for me, about 11-12 hours. The older bottles used to last well into the next day.
Conclusion : I started wearing this about 10 years back when I was young, just starting my career. I’ve loved and worn it for years. I will continue to wear it for years.
