D2 Needs New Lights to survive - New Lights need access to the entire game
Destiny has been my "go-to game" since the Beta for D1. That being said, I have read extensively on the game and its current state. As of right now, I believe the game is good, though it could benefit from improvements to retain players. However, the real issue lies with the player base, specifically the old legacy players who continually demand more content.
To rejuvenate the game, it needs New Lights—new players. Bungie's promise of new end-game content will not attract new players. In fact, the current mechanics of end-game content are counterproductive for newcomers. Take Raids, for example. If you don't know the mechanics, no one will let you join. There is no effective way to practice these mechanics without joining a Fire Team willing to do a Raid solely for teaching purposes—something that rarely, if ever, happens.
Normal Raids need to be more forgiving to allow for teaching the mechanics, while the Grandmaster level should be reserved for those who have mastered the Raid. Over the past year, I have encouraged several people to buy the game (including all DLCs), and the primary reason they move on to other games is that the end-game content is not welcoming to new players. This is mainly due to the player base's lack of patience in teaching newcomers. While there are a few exceptions, the majority are not willing to help. Why would someone invest hours and money into a game when end-game activities are out of their reach? This also applies to Dungeons.
As for PVP, that is another discussion entirely.
I know some might say "Get Good" or suggest using fire team finders for LFGs. However, realistically, this hasn’t worked and won't work until Bungie finds a way to attract NEW players and make EVERY aspect of the game accessible. If not, we will continue to see reports of "Record Low Player Count" until Sony ultimately sunsets the entire franchise.
