I was recently told by my wife that she wanted a divorce. Reasons aside, I'm concerned about what this means as I am in transition to a new career path which we always planned on doing together. I am active-duty military and planning on receiving PCS orders as early as September of this year. My spouse works full-time and has a master's degree but still makes about 20k less Gross than I do but that is only due to my BAH which scales to the economy (roughly) and fluctuates wildly as I change zip codes and states. We have two kids together and I want nothing more than to be with them every chance I can. I never expected to have to split this up and it's awful. According to the child support worksheet in Washington, I owe about $1,383.97 in obligated support while my wife owes $996.03. If we can figure out a 50/50 custody, I assume this means whoever is considered primary get the full amount from the other parent? Do we split the difference between the two? What if I only get summers? Lastly, can we mediate these terms and come up with our own legally binding plans for the judge to sign? I can't find answers anywhere I don't want to miss out on anything our children do. Any advice would be great, otherwise thanks for allowing me to vent!
