Cavalier King Charles Sleep help!

Hey all, My dear sweet 7 month old Cav hasn't slept through the night for about a month. Usually he will wake once or twice in a night. His sleeping arrangement is the same crate he's spent every night in, fully covered with ample blankets and his snuggle pup. We have gradually increased its size as he's grown so that he's not cramped. His crate in a little space, within 6 feet of our bed. In the room we have a rain noise machine and a fan going, with a little night light. He's had this his whole time with us.

His diet has changed with his growth, and about a month and a half ago, ran into some tummy issues, that caused him to wake in the middle of the night to relieve himself. But since getting that under control, has retained that same schedule, usually waking at 2 and 4. He is generally active and we move at his pace.

Usually he is a lazy boy. However, on days when he is sedentary or if there is A LOT of activity, he still wakes himself in the night. He communicates via slight whimpers when he needs to go out. However, we have had moments when he will wake up just to go downstairs and sleep on or under the couch and is resistant to going out by hiding. We have also begun trying soothing techniques instead of letting him out.

What are we doing wrong here? Excuse the long winded nature of the post, me and my wife are tired lol. Feels like a newborn. Any advice that we haven't thought of is deeply appreciated.
