Why did my weapons damage go down after upgrading?

Hi, I'm new at Elden ring and Souls games, yesterday i upgraded my character to the next level and put a point into strength.

However after doing that the damage my axe does went down?

I thought this was odd as by adding the point, I was reaching the strength requirement for that axe.
