Remove white pattern- heat or water?

Hi, I'm nearly finished with this kit that I got as a gift but I'm confused on how to remove the white pattern. It's flakey and says to wash it off, but ive tried that with a different one that had the same kind of ink(?) on it and it didn't work at all. Would dry heat remove the lines instead? Thanks
