Has anyone told their ex they cant be friends with them later had them reach out and try to get back together?
NOTE: I’m not looking for “move on” or “get over her” posts: they’re not helpful, I’ve heard them all a million times, and Reddit is bitter and jaded in general.
I’m at a crossroads. My ex and I dated fir a year, she broke up with me, and still wants to be friends. A month ago I asked if she wanted to give our relationship another shot and she said she wasn’t interested, but reached out to me the next day saying she still cared about me and wanted to be friends. I didn’t commit one way or the other but I told her I needed space, which she agreed to. Aside from one text she sent me in the middle of the night about 2 weeks ago, we have not been in contact. My decision now is either:
1) keep doing no contact, continue working on myself (I’ve started a new job, gotten sober, and lost weight thanks to diet and exercise), and wait to see if she breaks no contact again or eventually reach out and try to win her back
OR
2) send her a lengthy message acknowledging how I screwed up in the relationship, explain how I plan to change, and tell her that I cannot be friends with her and cut her off, leaving it entirely up to her how to respond
Either way is hard. I guess I’m just wondering what people think the best course of action is
