Stood my ground....got a decent price
I had a three panel mahogany room divider listed for several months on Facebook Marketplace for $100. It came with our house (previous owners left it). We used it for a couple years, but it's spent the past few years in a corner of the basement.
Decided I'd try to make some cash versus taking it to Goodwill as it's rather large. Every reply I'd get, they were asking if I'd take $50. I just said "nope won't go that low." They'd not follow up. I think I countered $75 one time and lady was "it's not worth that."
Every person who low balled was someone who lists dozens of things on Marketplace, so I'm guessing they're wanting to flip it.
Frankly I was ready to haul it to Goodwill and claim it was worth $400 for charitable deduction purposes than accept the lower ball offer.
Out of the blue Thursday night, a lady asks if I'll take $75. I said sure! She was running behind getting to our house and very kindly sent me messages about the delay. When she arrived, she gave me $80. I went to get change and she said "no, that extra is for your patience."
I'm glad I didn't cave to the lower ballers. But it did take a good 4 months to sell 😉.
