I genuinely enjoy this job (Ground)
Someone said this sub is becoming an airport cause all the posts about people quitting and looking for work elsewhere. I can’t speak for anyone else or what they deal with when they go to their said terminal or in their truck. For me though at my terminal shit isn’t that bad. I been here almost 6 months now and while I don’t have a route yet all the guys who do usually are off by 4. It’s pretty seldom they have upwards of 200 stops and we have a decent amount of extra people without routes who can go take stops from there to lessen their load.
The terminal I’m at the loaders do a pretty good job so that’s not much a headache ever. I can get to work anywhere from 8-9:30 basically and most days I’m still off by 4. Sometimes even 3. Sometimes 2:30. Which means I can have time to bring my son to school in the morning and sometimes be there when he gets out too. The pay set up has its benefits considering I can earn $160-180 a day when in reality I’m only working like 4-4.5 hours a day.
I used to work in banking as a teller which was cool but I got tired of dealing with customers every day and their entitlement. At this job it’s just me and a truck with boxes. No one to tend to every 3-5 minutes or hours of downtime cause there’s no customer to help making time feel like it’s dragging. I make almost the same at this job I did at the bank but don’t have to be at work for 8 hours a day. Most shifts fly by it seems at this job.
I’ve delivered for Amazon and it was like 4 years ago but this shit is way better I’d say. I had to not only load my own van then but also arrive early just to drive the van to the warehouse. The whole process was an hour alone. Each day was at least ten hours. If you got done early (2-3pm) you always had to go rescue someone and you’d still get off around 6 regardless. Instead of individual packages/boxes out already they’d be dumped in a bin and you had to dump the contents of the bin on the passenger seat and sort through them at each stop.
I appreciate the work out I get after sitting at a computer 5 days a week 8 hours a day the last two years. My body feels stronger rather than weaker. If I’m sore I can stretch or ice so that’s not much an issue.
Could probably go on but that’s just me.
