Sellers staying after closing??

They basically accepted our offer. Woo! However they countered that AFTER closing they need to stay 30 days. For free. Is this actually normal? What if they screw up the house? Not sure it matters but they are selling because divorce. 4 kids. Idk, could be messy.

I want this house. But I don’t want to close with anyone inside the house. Nonetheless not have them pay for staying?? I know the 1st mortgage doesn’t come until a month later. But I was looking forward to that since we’re moving around the holidays… Is this commonly done? Am I missing something here? UPDATE: wow! Thank you for the responses. We are no longer going through with the purchase. This issue wasn’t the deciding factor but it sure as hell didn’t help. Thank you all so much, really appreciate all the perspectives!
