An Ode to Unflavored Protein Powder
Boy do I wish I’d known about unflavored protein powder when I was diagnosed with GD with my first because now that I’m back for baby #2 and dealing with another uncooperative placenta, I’m thrilled to have this option.
My biggest frustration last time around was satisfying my sweet tooth and feeling like my only options were sugar substitutes. And sure, Premier Protein shakes have their place but sometimes I just want a tall glass of plain milk and a regular sugary cupcake! I’m thrilled to share that this dream has become a reality for me thanks to unflavored protein. Whenever I want a sweet baked good, I add a serving of powder to my milk, drink ⅓ of it before I start on my sweet treat, the rest during my snack, and my glucose levels are good to go. How good, you might ask? Well, I just made a double scoop of plain protein powder milk so I could eat TWO birthday cupcakes at lunch and my 1 hour post-meal was 115.
