Lynn and Joan and money

I’ve been doing a binge rewatch and this time around I’ve paid much closer attention to how awful Lynn and Joan can be—not always, but more often than not.

I think I was finally able to put my thoughts on them into words: Joan was only a good friend because she had money, and Lynn was only a bad friend because she didn’t have money.

I feel like if Joan didn’t have her high paying job and big house and wasn’t able to pick up the tab for her friends, she would be irredeemably selfish. Likewise, if Lynn wasn’t broke, she wouldn’t have taken advantage of everyone and more attention would have been paid to the kind of friend she is rather than simply painting her character as a freeloader.

And again, I know they’re not always bad; they all have their moments. Just thought I’d share my thoughts and maybe hear some in return 😅
