First time playing an arpg since Diablo 2, struggling a bit with my build

I think I messed up my build. I'm level 30 and just got to homestead, and I started with an oathkeeper to eventually build either a paladin or warlord. So far, I've mostly been leveling righteous fervor, the shield charge ability (I'm sorry I forgot the name) and any fire augments or buffs to my character.

I'm kind of struggling with some of the bosses in normal mode, and I can't seem to get any gear for my build. Am I maybe building wrong? Is there a way to grind for better gear? Do some bosses have a chance to drop better gear?

Sorry for the noob post, this is my first time taking an arpg seriously. Loving the game so far, it's very fun!
