I kinda understand why thunderbolt isn't canon

I love some interesting mobile suit design but some of thunderbolts one year war designs have no design progression. The patrol boat river Jim's with zaku shoulder armor doesn't sit right with me. I kinda feel like the goofy over designed suits was more a Zeon hallmark while the federation kept it simple. I still enjoy the thunderbolt manga just as far as the one year war goes it feels out of place.
