Hot Thunder Gloves?

Are the gloves really necessary for hot thunder? Or just a marketing gimmick? Aldi just released some padded lifting gloves for $6 and I debated grabbing a set to try for hot thunder, I've only done it once and the handles did bother my hands a tad by the end, but I also think it was from my the pressure on my rings. Curious what everyone's experience is with this, thanks!
