Why did she come downstairs?

New to the game, playing it with not much prior knowledge on master only with silent assassin settings because I like a good challenge. I had done this path 20 times in pretty much identical fashion and never had her walk downstairs, especially by herself? I had not even figured out how to kill her with these difficulty settings by this point, and kind of feel like I cheesed it. Thanks!
