AP vs IB program for my son

So my wife and I have a decision to make, with my sons input of course.

He's been accepted into the IB program at a local out of district high school next year. This school would be perfectly fine, but his 1st choice school just offered a spot.

His 1st choice is a charter school which is a lottery based system. They've offered pre AP courses for 9th grade and later on AP or even dual enrollment.

About my son... He's always done really well in school. He was tested and has a 143 IQ. Been in gifted/honors classes and has a 3.9 gpa. Things typically come easy for him, but like most gifted kids, he doesn't like challenges. I don't bring up the IQ to brag at all. Actually I believe his sister might become more successful than him because of the lack of effort required to do well in school and the resistance I see when things are more difficult. I'm hoping high school will challenge him more and force him outside his comfort zone.

My main questions are, which program is more sought after by colleges? Or which would prepare him for the next chapter in life?

My instinct tells me he'll do well in either one, but struggle more in IB with more requirements. Being that he's a really good student, I'd love to send him to the charter school with AP and make him happy, but I also don't want to miss an opportunity for him to get more college ready.

Truly torn so maybe people with experience can weigh in.

Thanks in advance ☺️
