Our experience: police certificate for a child that just turned 18
Just wanted to share our experience since this question has been asked before (including by me).
IRCC states that everyone who is 18 or over should submit a police certificate.
At the same time, a police certificate is only required if someone lived in a country other than Canada for 6+ months after turning 18. So it was unclear whether someone who only just turned 18 is required to submit it.
My stepdaughter turned 18 just a few days before we submitted the application (with her listed as non-accompanying dependant in my husband’s spousal sponsorship application). We were unable to get her police certificate in time and didn’t want to press the issue unless it was absolutely needed.
So right now eligibility, biometrics, medicals are all passed, and they are requesting her police certificate.
Posting this just to inform future applicants that a police certificate is indeed required even if your child is 18 years and a few days old
