Need help! Friend got scammed on tinder.

I made a profile for my friend ( guy /20). He's using the app for the first time. He matched with a girl, good looking, lots of photos and verified profile. They started chating and and after few days. They went for a date for which he paid and during the date she put up so much sob stories about her dire financial situation. My friend offered to help and gave her money, that too as cash ( which she told she'll return after few days). Now she has ghosted him and deleted her insta account. He's too ashamed to go to cops. Is there any other way to recover ?
