Why is the box-office success of these actresses getting sidelined in favor of their male counterparts?

All these actresses had huge box office successes in 2024 in lead roles. Yet, when discussing the success of their movies, the credit seems to go entirely to the men.

I saw a post a day before in here hailing Naslen as the solo male star with a 100-crore movie, as if Mamitha didn’t draw Telugu and Tamil audiences, and as if I am Kaathalan didn’t bomb shortly after. I’d say Amal Davis and Aadhi from the same movie had more impact in Kerala than Naslen.

Basil is getting credit for Sookshmadarshini, while his own film Cup flopped even harder a month earlier. Nazriya’s name isn’t getting mentioned anywhere, when she’s yet to flop with a malayalam movie where she’s the lead(except Salaala and SAHK)

Asif Ali is getting all the acclaim for Rekhachithram, as if he wasn’t struggling with flop after flop before Thalavan or Kishkindha Kandam. Where is the credit for Anaswara as if she wasn’t the part of back to back blockbusters like Neru, GAN and Ozler?

The narrative that a solo woman can’t lead a movie to success seems the justification for this by many, but the truth is, neither can a man unless the movie is good or has something to offer(unless you are one of the Big Ms). These actors don’t carry films based on their name alone. They only get hits when the movie itself works. Yet, when a film is successful, all the credit goes to them, while the female artists are overlooked.

Why is it so hard for Malayalis to give the credit these women deserve?
