Getting Sued for 230k at 18 Years old

Almost two years ago, I was in a car accident. (I failed to yield on a left-turn yellow light at low speed.) I hit another driver’s car, and both of our vehicles were totaled. At the time, adrenaline made it easy for me to open my car door, but the accident report says the "jaws of life" were used to open it. The other driver seemed shaken, in some pain, and didn’t respond when I asked if he was okay. He was taken away in an ambulance, and I just prayed he would be alright.

After the accident, my mom asked our insurance company to help settle the case since she doesn’t speak English. I had just turned 18 a few days before the accident,

Fast forward to now, I received an email from our insurance company. It looks like the man I hit is seeking $230,000 in compensation—$194,000 for general damages and the rest for medical expenses and lost wages. His insurance company is also asking me to sign an "affidavit of no insurance," and my insurance company provided their policy limit of $25,000.

I feel completely trapped. I’m not sure if I’m being sued, if my insurance company has lost the case, or if I’ll have to pay the rest out of pocket. I don’t know much about legal matters, and I feel terrible for the man involved, as well as for my parents, who lost the truck they worked 19 years to afford and all the money they threw in the trash because of my mistake.

Now, I'm 19 years old attending college. I’ve been picking up extra shifts, avoiding touching my savings, and bracing for the worst
