so. many. false. fits. Spirit of Flight, Buffalo Games & Puzzles, 1000 pc (library loan)
first stopping point. I was so done with all the false fits
two sided false fits are diabolical
This image wasn't as hard as I thought it was going to be. I had no idea how to begin sorting it but just sort of started with the yellow bits and kept going, and it turned out ok. The part that drove me crazy was the puzzle quality, which was by far the worst of any puzzle brand I've done so far. This was a loan from the library and not in the best condition when I got it (see the two missing pieces), but I can't blame the previous solvers. It's almost impossible to keep the pieces from trying to pull themselves apart when you separate them. But more annoying than that was the false fits. I had probably a half dozen in the edge alone, and too many to count in the rest of the solve, including pieces that made a satisfying snap into a corner like the one in the picture, but then didn't belong there. With textures as chaotic as the ones in this puzzle, sometimes you needed to get out a metaphorical magnifying glass to tell if two pieces actually belonged together, and often they didn't.
So I don't regret doing the puzzle. It was very satisfying to work on a puzzle with a complex image that didn't need reference to the box top constantly to get right. Most of the sections built on themselves in a satisfying way. But the puzzle quality makes me not want to do any more puzzles from this brand (or at least, never to buy one) no matter how good the image is.
