KAIST MS—Pathway to a PhD Abroad?

Hi everyone,

I’m considering an MS in Chemical Engineering at KAIST in South Korea and am curious about how it might impact my chances of pursuing a PhD afterward, ideally in the USA, UK, or Europe. Has anyone here gone through this pathway or know if an MS from KAIST is well-regarded in these regions?

Additionally, I’ve heard that some professors might discourage or even prevent students from pursuing a PhD abroad. How true is this in practice? Any advice on navigating this would also be appreciated!

Thanks in advance for your insights!
