Calcium carbonate to raise PH?

So baking soda taste pretty awful. Even neutralizing the extract it still leaves a pretty awful taste. Anyone ever tried to crush up some calcium carbonate to neutralize the extract? Hell, maybe even using flavored Tums to add some flavor to it.
