When will we learn

This is mostly a rant.

Had a coworker go to the hospital today from the office because they were so sick. They been out of office intermittently the past two week because of an ongoing illness.

Can we stop pretending like being sick isn’t a valid excuse for not working. Not only did they risk infecting everyone in the office now everyone is moderately traumatized for seeing them bordering on consciousness and are just talking about what happened and how crazy it was etc and waiting for an update.

A paralegal even asked what about XYZ project as they were being taken to the emergency room.

I get billable hours requirements and all the talking points. I have heard them many times before. But when one of your workers thinks they have to come into work or be responsive to emails when they can barely stand and function we need to re-evaluate ourselves and our beliefs and standards that made that person think that way.

The world will go on if that client update letter doesn’t go out. You need to take care of your health because no one else does. Being a salaried employee doesn’t mean we fork over all rights to our time and life.

Rant over.
