Regarding Riot's recent addition for newcomers and returning players...
I just had the best experience reintroducing a friend to LoR. A friend and I were playing League and decided to call it for the night after a few ARAMs. We still wanted to play something. Something more relaxed. I told him about LoR's recent updates and how much fun I've had playing eternal and the new set recently. He hadn't played much since beta/launch but was convinced to update the game and play some of his old decks with me.
I was excited to show him some of the cool decks/cards/champs that have come out since then, so I queued up against his ancient decks.. and stomped every game. I was trying to show him how cool these interactions and combos were that I was pulling off each game, but I could tell it just wasn't fun for him since he didn't have any recent cards or knowledge of good decks. Then I remembered the free deck bundles introduced recently.. and the night totally changed. He played the Senna/Veigar control deck and something clicked for him.
He saw how this game separates itself form other card games. He played a handful of the free bundles and was excited to discuss how well each deck synergyized with itself and the unique flavors of each region and champion. Like he went from being so-so about the game to straight up theorycrafting in the middle of each game the second a deck made sense to him. Just wanted to share this positive experience and congratulate Riot on doing something very right for newcomers and returning players. I was so excited to see someone share my interest in the game and watch the game *click* for them for the very first time.
