LPT- When you are on the receiving end of bad service, always give them one chance to remedy the situation before writing the place off.
I've flared this under food and drink but I realize that this tip can be applied with most business transactions.
I went to lunch with my partner to a place I have frequented before. We haven't had any issues previously and expected another unremarkable afternoon there today. We ordered a meal that came with chips (fries as some call it) and onion rings. After what seemed like 45 mins or so, our meal came without our accompaniments. They told us that the fryers were backed up and our fries/chips would come shortly. As we were nearing the end of our meal, our chips finally arrives and they are drenched in oil and soggy.
We did a short back and forth, I said I am not eating this. He said the same. We were both annoyed and he said he can't believe he paid this much for this, I said well, we have to send it back. He said let's just leave and go home and write a bad review. I said no, I am not doing that. I'm going to get my money back now. I took it back to them and they looked at it and said ..'yeah that's soggy' let me replace it and we ended up getting a free coffee and cake. We left satisfied with that outcome because I gave them a chance to recover the bad service and they took that chance to remedy the situation.
For context, I work in the service industry. Feedback like these are my bread and butter. I will never scoff or call someone a Karen if they approach me kindly and give me a chance to fix something. We are all human at the end of the day and none of us are perfect. Before writing a business or person off, always allow them a chance to fix the issue instead of ranting and raving about it afterwards. A Google review is just an online equivalent of throwing your fist in the air and shouting an empty threat from your lawn.
