Best way to utilize keypads with Radio Ra3
I am building a new house and have taken the Radio Ra3 course and received my certificate. My question relates to design and best way to deploy key pads.
For example, suppose I have a room with ceiling cans. I could use a Sunnata hybrid keypad with bright, medium and dim keys plus up and down, but that doesn't really seem to have any advantage to just using a Sunnata dimmer.
If we make the lighting a little more complex like ceiling cans plus two end-table lamps you could have a dimmer for the ceiling lights plus a non-hybrid keypad and program the keys to all lights bright, medium, and dim or possibly ceiling lights only, table lamps only, or ceiling lights and table lamps, and use up and down to adjust brightness. Not sure if that's worth it or not.
But then suppose you have a room with a lot of things like a great room with big windows and two banks of ceiling lights (one for the central area and one by the windows), plus table lamps, plus automated window shades. You could have dimmers for the two banks of ceiling lights plus two keypads, with one just for the shades. But there are so many permutations I don't know what to do especially since the keypads have only 3 buttons with up and down or 4 buttons. You could do something like:
- central ceiling lights on at some brightness, shades open, and window lights off so they don't reflect on the windows and I can see the view
- All lights on (at some brightness) and shades closed for privacy
- Medium lights for entertaining and something else for shades
- dim lights (some or all) for watching TV and shades open or closed.
If you include additional accent lighting or ceiling fans it is worse. I'm not sure that being able to have 3 or 4 "scenes" from a keypad (or even 7 with a Seetouch keypad) is all that useful given all the possible combinations.
Even a kitchen can be somewhat complicated with ceiling cans, under counter lights and pendents over the island.
Can someone with a better sense of how to use keypads help me with some guidance about how to use them the best way?
Thanks.
