Switch to OM-1 & GH6 as a pro photo / video kit?
I’m a professional outdoor videographer & photographer currently shooting with a Sony FS5 cinema camera. I’ve used the Sony mirrorless and cinema range for most of my career, but I’ve never really enjoyed the “feel” of their cameras. I’m looking at moving away to a fully M43 system to be more nimble and travel lighter and also for the amazing lightweight telephoto lens selection.
My shooting scenarios: - wildland fire communications work (lots of run and gun video interviews with fire crews, pictures of people working on the fire line, switching quickly between photo & video as needed) - social media & YouTube video creation for environmental & outdoor organizations - personal use during 3 month world travel for shooting close up wildlife during safaris, macro, portrait and landscape scenes. Eventually underwater once I get funding for that sort of thing. I’m already scuba certified but the housings are expensive.
My idea is to buy an OM System OM-1 for stills & a Panasonic GH6 for video, and share lenses between them. I plan to purchase the Olympus 12-100, the 60mm macro, and ideally the new 150-400 lens (or maybe the 100-400 would be better?). Ideally I would like a hybrid camera that does photo & video both well, but it seems that doesn’t exist yet within the M43 realm, hence the cross brand selection.
Does this seem like a sound selection? Thoughts? Ideas?
