Learning Magento from nothing

Hello everyone.

I'm actually in an intership where i discovered the joys of Magento 1.4.

We (the other intern and me) tried to find good documentations for Magento but we found next to nothing. Do you know if 1. a documentation exists. 2. If it exists, it is any good ?

Also, if any of you have any advices for Magento beginners, we will be happy to hear it.
