First Time Watching (critique and praise)

First time watching the show. I think bill maher is absolutely hilarious. I’m a usual John Oliver fan, and I’m a fan of political comedy and commentary, big fan of Veep and similar shows. Much like the title, very real and witty. It feels like having a conversation with someone about politics, unlike the very media heavy John Oliver show.

As much as I do find him funny, the formatting of the show is odd to me. There is so much space given for applause and laughter from the audience, feels like a sitcom that someone accidentally multiplied the AI laugh too much. I find it hilarious, but I’m waiting for Maher to speak so often because the audience found it way too funny. It’s like having Fran Drescher loudly laughing in hysterics at every turn.

I can’t be the only one who thinks this. I’d love to talk about its effectiveness. The interview section is something wonderful aside from this critique, though there are still these interjections, but I feel it shines more because of the smaller amount of distractions. It feels like a project for a visual comms majors final at times, almost forcing engagement on the viewer.
