In Praise of Bad Films

Inspired by both the recent Freddy Vs. Jason EFAP and an argument I had with another user; what are some bad films that you all really enjoy?

Sometimes, people just want some mindless entertainment, and that's totally fine. I'm not always in the mood to sit down and re-watch 12 Angry Men or The Godfather, sometimes I just want something really stupid and fun, something that I can just unwind with, have a good time, and not have to think too much with. I know everyone's got films like that for them, and I wanna know what those films are for all of you, but more importantly, what it is about those films that works for you and makes you enjoy it?

The Room's a classic and obvious example; objectively a bad film in almost every conceivable way, from the plot, characters, acting, cinematography, soundtrack, and even the editing. The end result is one of the most unintentionally hilarious films ever made. The filmography of Ed Wood hits some similar beats, particularly some classics like Plan 9 and Glen or Glenda. As a huge horror fan, Blacula is something that I unironically love, mostly for how serious and earnestly William Marshall plays the character.

Deep Blue Sea is one of my favourite films of all time; a research lab in the middle of the open ocean that's trying to cure Alzheimer's by making some sharks super intelligent. What could go wrong? The plot's insane, but the cast and characters manage to play it surprisingly straight. The characters are all pretty likable, it has some creative action sequences, the acting's not bad, and some of the effects are pretty good for the time. Overall it's just a really fun film that works fantastically if you don't think about it for too long.

That's it for mine, now let me know some of yours. What are some of your favourite bad films, and why do you love them?
