About to beat MGS...but then what??

Haha, so I'm about to beat metal gear solid, once sit down and beat the final boss...

but then what story-driven game should I play??

I know you're going to recommend an RPG, and listen, I know lol and I keep trying, I want sooo badly to like them!!

I'm slowly playing thru Earthbound but it's just not as captivating as MGS, and I generally get bored of going and talking to everyone in a town/turn based fighting.

I tried ff7 as well based on glowing reviews, and I was super into that story! But...then it seemed like every 3 steps I would take, some invisible creature would fight me and eventually I was like ok... enough lol.

I tried/am kinda trying Chrono trigger, but every time I pick it up I'm like.... literally what am I supposed to do rn? So I walk around aimlessly then eventually I give up lol.

Any story driven game recs?

I have loads of grab n go games (NHL 96, Sonic Adv 2, Shinobi, etc)
