What are your thoughts on s40?

Now the season is coming to a close, what is the general reception on its quality? I'm a bit confused why people have seemed to hate on it so much right from the jump? I thought this season was a huge step up in quality. It definitely has its flaws but I think overall it's a step in the right direction.

Although I got busy and haven't had time to watch the second half yet. Does the season get better or worse and is the second half worth watching?
