HIE and total body cooling

My lil guy was born 3 days ago with HIE and started cooling within 6 hours. We’re thankful that he’s breathing on his own since less than an hour after birth. We’re thankful he was full term 39+6.

We understand we could be in a lot worse position.

What are we watching for in trying to understand the million things going on with his care that point towards healing well enough to come home. We’re not setting expectations on cognitive or what the future looks like.

We are learning that we shouldn’t put stock in the mild to severe neurological tests right now and wait until his mri on Tuesday. What else should we be guarding ourselves or preparing ourselves for?
