I make 18/hour, how to afford nyc?
I work in an office near Bryant park making 18/hour. I'm hoping I can get a raise at some point hopefully. Currently I live with my mom in Washington/Hudson heights. Given rents in NYC I don't think I can afford to move out but I wanted to know people's opinions. Is it possible to live within commuting distance of the Bryant Park area on an 18/hour salary? I know this is an extreme budget, but I can work overtime where I get paid time and a half sometimes and I'm hoping I can at least get a raise to 19 or 20 an hour soon as I know coworkers doing my same job are being paid that much. If anyone has any suggestions on areas I should look at for rooms/apartments that would be appreciated. I'm open to a commute over an hour or more if it is a more affordable area.
EDIT: trying to move out because my situation at home isn't the best for my mental health long term. Also I am not looking for someplace near Bryant park, just someplace within an hour (hour and a half maximum) commute of there because that's where I work
