“Nuke is like a regular 9-5 job.”

I met with a recruiter for the first time earlier this week. I’m highly interested in Nuke for more reasons than one. I love physics.

My recruiter put me on the phone with a PO Nuke so I could ask some questions. I mentioned how I’ve heard that Nukes work really long hours per day, up to 14 and 16. He said it might happen “here and there,” but that it’s “like a normal job.” He stated that in port is for maintenance, and you might come in at 8am and leave at 4pm. He then went on to state that while at sea, you’ll have watch which might be something like 3 hours on, 9 off, 3 on, and so on for a couple of weeks until your time switches.

I was wondering if this at all true. I’ve read quite the opposite from this subreddit, and any advice for Nuke in general is greatly appreciated.
