Mets Daily Discussion Thread - January 28, 2025
Good morning!
On this date in 1967, the Mets drafted Ken Singleton with the third overall pick in the 1967 January draft. At the time, there were three separate drafts with a June draft for high school graduates, a January draft for people who graduated and an August draft for those in summer leagues. The Boston Red Sox drafted Carlton Fisk with the fourth overall pick after the Mets. The January draft ended in 1986. On April 5, 1972, the Mets traded Singleton with Tim Foli and Mike Jorgensen to the Montreal Expos for Rusty Staub. Singleton went on to be a three time All-Star and played for the 1983 Orioles who won the World Series. Singleton went on to be a broadcaster for the YES Network until 2021.
