Public EV charging options
I decided to get an EV because my old car was almost an MOT write off. At the time my work car park had free ev charging which has been fantastic because I can’t charge in my block of flats. They are soon going to start charging money for the work ev charger because Newcastle city council is pulling the plug on ev charger subsidies. This basically leaves me with needing to find cheap public charging elsewhere. They will be charging 55p/kwh in the work car park. Yes this is cheaper than fast public charging, but if Tesla had an open ev charger in Newcastle I could charge there at like 22p/kwh if I paid the monthly subscription of £10. Fastned have a similar subscription offering at 49p/kWh.
I think most ev owners have a driveway and house where they can at least use the 3pin house plug to charge at 10p/kwh night rate. Since I can’t change at home I don’t have access to this.
I’m wondering if anyone else has gone through some investigation of this situation and worked out any good solutions?
We use our a lot, for example charging 300-500kw a month usually, so the difference in charging rate will have a substantial impact.
