Just adopted senior Newfie! Oh

Hi! Not a purebred Newfie (I hope that is allowed) but I have been “fostering” this hunk for about 2-ish months, and after about 24 hours knew I was going to adopt him. He is the greatest dog I have ever met! His life before me is semi-unknown (I included a before pic) but it seems he was a mostly outdoor dog whose owner passed away and never was able to let him back inside. :( The neighbors eventually called animal control and he went to a rescue, and then to me.

He unfortunately was heart worm positive but healthy otherwise and has completed the third heart worm shot, just needs to rest for a few more weeks and will be golden! The neighbors said his owner had him for 13-14 years but the vet agrees he is more like 8 or 9…

ANYWAYS the point of this post is to ask- what do you feed your senior Newfies? What toys do they love (he gets embarrassed if anyone sees him play with a toy) is there anything that has worked to protect their hips/legs from old age? Is there anything you did for your senior Newfie that improved their life? Does CBD actually work?

I knew I was taking on an old dog but I would love to extend his life and comfort as long as possible and also show him as much fun in the meantime as I can :) he is so gentle and sweet and I just want to provide the best retirement ever for him.

Ty in advance <3
