Pink Slime Machine… what am I missing?

Hello! I’m lost on what’s next for me to be able to have whatever machine is needed to break the pink slime barriers.

I believe I did everything up to where Kuafu makes the machine for me that’s supposed to break it (I have Ji’s hair and the item you get after beating the mini boss in grotto of scriptures).

I talked to him and shuanshuan when I got back and I didn’t get any new item. Did I miss any key text there to go somewhere else to get the item?

If it helps, I currently have the sols of kuafu, goumang, yanlao, jiequan, lady ethereal, Ji, and fuxi.

Any tips?

Edit: also noting/clarifying that going back to Kuafu to talk isn’t triggering anything.
