How do I not suck at texting?

I'm such a horrible texter and I feel as if I have to start every conversation with people and it usually ends with me being left on read.

I just want to make friends but I can't communicate over text at all. I'm so boring and my conversation skills are so much better in person.

I hate texting and I feel like I have to type a message ten different times before I'm happy with it just to regret sending it immediately after.
