Growing out of OCD because of moving?
So I’ve never been officially diagnosed with OCD but had a period growing up that was very textbook OCD and have had professionals agree that it was most likely OCD.
It started when I was 11. I went from normal child to ‘I must check everything around my house before I sleep/leave and if I don’t do this magic routine my entire family will die and it will be my fault’. I had chronic intrusive thoughts/images about sex and violence which were very distressing. It was very hard to sleep because my brain was filled with the urge to do compulsions, intrusive thoughts and hypnagogic hallucinations. This behaviour peaked ~around 14 and started to decrease slightly as I turned 15/16.
Here’s where I get confused. When I was 17 my family moved to a new house in a different city and essentially all of my compulsions just vanished. I still get the occasional intrusive thought but they have never really been as distressing as they were when I was a child. I have read that people say that OCD can’t go away and it’ll probably come back but I’m 23 now and I’ve still never been afflicted like I was when I was a teen.
I’m curious if this has happened to anyone else or what people’s thoughts are. Is it possible that I still have OCD but it may be something like to pure O? I also have ADHD and ASD so I’m not sure if it could have been symptoms of these that displayed similarly to OCD. thanks guys.
