I had the pleasure of seeing "The Substance" and I now understand the hype surrounding Demi Moore.
The film was finally released in my country and I just left the screening. I'm blown away. Everything was excellent. I didn't mind the gore because I didn't find it gratuitous, it moved the story and served a point.
But Demi Moore was fantastic. I always felt she was underrated as an actress but here, she got to do stuff we probably never saw her try before and the way she conveys self-loathing and a yearning for lost youth was raw, real and absolutely heartbreaking to watch. The scene where she's repeatedly doing her make-up for a date. Just Wow. I don't think there is another scene from another actress this year that could beat that for me in movies.
