Whats the deal with businesses in the US not offering public restrooms anymore?

Ive started delivering with uber eats recently which has meant ive needed to use public restrooms more. Ive noticed a lot of places, walgreens, mcdonalds, tacobell etc. big franchises basically have stopped offering restrooms even with purchases. Is this a new thing?
