Help! Einhander PS1 on PS3

I’ve got an older fat PS3 model that’s compatible with PS1 discs. The game works, but the controls are limited—the left analog joystick doesn’t work! Granted, I’ve changed the controller settings to analog and nothings changed.

Is there an aftermarket controller that would make this work? This game’s hard as fuck, and I can only pull this off with the analog controls
