Hey hey - DoED sent out new general forbearance guidance for those on SAVE in email this morning.
Early AM email from DoED. It looks as though they have clarified guidance regarding SAVE forbearance. IN OUR FAVOR. Previously, if you went to SAVE FAQs, that is where you could see we are eligible to be moved into processing forbearance, which would allow for 60-days toward PSLF. However, the wording there was still pretty vague. New email says the same, though with beefed up wording that clarifies this further. SAVE THIS EMAIL GUYS. This is the wording that will help you fight for that time/credit:
Cc: “If you submit an application to enroll in an IDR plan other than SAVE, but your loan servicer is unable to process your application within 10 business days of receiving the application or before your next billing statement will be sent, you will be moved into a processing forbearance for up to 60 days. During this period, • you do not have to make your monthly payments on your student loans, • interest is accruing, and • time spent does provide credit toward PSLF* and IDR When you are moved into forbearance, your loan servicer will notify you about which type of forbearance you are in and which previous months were covered by which type of forbearance. They will also notify you when you have been placed in a new IDR plan.”
Edit: Spoke to Mohela today (hold time was 2hrs 50 mins). Rep confirmed everyone at Mohela received the same email with guidance today and they are on the same page with FSA.
