How do I get back into this game properly with what I'm looking for out of it?

Hey everyone! So I used to play the Pokemon TCG back when I was 12-15 and I'm 36 now. So it's been around 21 years since I've played which seems crazy to me. I've been playing Magic the Gathering for awhile now and left TCGs alone for a long time as well.

Anyway, I have recently played again with some learning decks and starter deck type of things. The game seems to be miraculously easy to play still and to understand which is awesome. It doesn't even seem like much has changed which is awesome!

At first, when I saw the Pokemon EX and Pokemon V cards I thought they seemed BONKERS BROKEN compared to what I used to play (and they are) but when I found out that your opponent gets to take 2 prize cards when they knock it out I kind of thought that that part of it seemed kind of cool at least.

Anyway, I'm super excited to get back into this game as I loved it so much growing up and I want to experience the naulsalstia of seeing Pokemon battle and KO each other again, see the cute ones and see the big bad ones again.

Enough reminiscing over the past though. lol.

Onto why I'm posting this message and why I'm here.

I don't know what I'm doing anymore... :( lol.

When I played there was only one format. There weren't banned cards. I don't know how to properly get into this game again.

In Magic the Gathering, I personally don't play Standard and I hate the idea of things forcefully rotating. I mostly play Modern in Magic the Gathering. (Which sounds like your guys's Expanded).

I'm wondering, how is expanded? This sounds like it gives you a very large card pool that goes back pretty far? How much does a really powerful deck legal in this format typically cost? Is there a site where I can find the best decks for Expanded?

If they're $1000+ I'm probably not that interested, but I would love to have access to playing A LOT of cards in a competitive format that doesn't forcibly rotate. (I understand that power creep can essentially cause a meta game type of rotate however.)

So how do I find the best lists for Expanded? How do I know what's legal in it and what's not? How much would it typically cost to get a GOATED Expanded deck? lol.

Or should I just stick with Standard?

If so, where can I find solid lists for those? Same questions basically? Where to find the best? How do I know what's legal? What would it cost me?

Well I feel excited enough and I'll leave it all at that. lol. Thanks to anyone who can help me get back into this game however I can. I REALLY appreciate it! 👍 Help me become a fellow Pokemon master again! 😂😂😂
