Which President Was the Healthiest While in Office?
Presidential thirst traps aside, I was just pondering this. George W. Bush was the first to come to mind, but Barack Obama was younger in office, so I’d probably give him the edge.
Also, among the youngest presidents JFK had that nasty war injury so that alone probably rules him out. Likewise Bill Clinton was widely known for his love of junk food and Ulysses S. Grant may have been an alcoholic (though the historical veracity of the latter is debated).
The top 3 on a Cracked style list compiled by George Mason University are:
- Theodore Roosevelt
- John Quincy Adams
- George Washington
I’m a little skeptical about measuring the well-being of any president that lived over 100 years ago though. It’s still so baffling to me that Roosevelt only lived until 60, which makes it possible, if not probable, he had some underlying health issues. For George Washington oral health is still health so being famous in part for having rotten teeth doesn’t bode well for him. John Quincy Adams regularly skinny dipping in the Potomac is pretty badass though and makes him one of the presidents with the most under rated machismo if nothing else.
