Yappy or Respectful?

Title, basically. Do you prefer an MC who knows their limits and treats those more powerful deferentially, or would you rather have one making quips at Gods?

Same question for the treatment of the MC themselves, by other characters. S/he just slayed an army of demons and three dark gods, should a local bartender be an ass to them?

Personally, I very much prefer the stories like Beware of Chicken. "You seem like a nice guy, but you can also splatter me over three different zipcodes, I am gonna be very polite just in case". Normally, people don't trashtalk their bosses or police officers, and those can only fire you or put you in a room for a bit, why would you try to be funny to a guy who can erase your entire bloodline. Sure, he might find it amusing, but what do you know, maybe your boss is in a good mood and would give you a raise for calling his mom a whore.
